“I want to study and become a good person” remarks enthusiastic Ali. He eagerly walks 3 km a day to study at Hilal Public School, Raju Khan, Dist. Jacobabad, Sind that was established by Green Crescent Trust in May 2011 in the aftermath of floods.
Ali lives in a nearby village where there is no schooling facility available.
Ali’s father who himself was unable to get education, however, wishes his son to study and become a responsible citizen. Once he regretfully told Ali, “One day I’ll be dead by a police’s bullet and I can’t do anything about that, however, you have a choice. My wish is that you study and become a good person rather than following a path of your father and uncles.”
Dacoit by “profession”, his father wishes to see his son – an educated and respectable citizen living a decent life not like his father’s. The opening of Hilal Public School at Raju Khan provided Ali’s father an opportunity to make his wish a reality. Other children from the village are also benefiting by the opening of one the schools of Green Crescent Trust. Children’s education in these areas are not taken very seriously due to lack of educational facilities.
Green Crescent Trust’s efforts in establishing schools despite daunting challenges, in Jacobabad, a District plagued by various crimes and kidnappings for ransom, has provided future generation a glimmer of hope to succeed and live a life of righteousness.
