“What I am today is because of our school and the dedicated efforts and affection of our teachers. We were living in the dark ages before we got this school in our village.” remarks Rizwan, who is now pursuing a career in chartered accountancy in Hyderabad and is among the first few students of Hilal Public School, Haji Khan Muhammad Goth – a remote village in District Sanghar, established in 1997. Before Green Crescent Trust cam to their erscue the only option for the children of Rizwan’s village was a government school, seven kilometers away, with a low education standard and majority of the villagers were not be able to send their children anywhere else to get proper schooling. Many of Rizwan’s classmates are not only the first few lucky ones of their vicinity to make it to the high school but a few of them , including Rizwan himself, got through a Cadet College, Sanghar, where they did their matriculation and intermediate and are now seeking higher education various institutions of Karachi and Hyderabad.
